SEL & Mental Health Track

What supports can we expect to receive from the SEL & Mental Health track?   

Year 1 Cohort Event​  In Year 1 of the academy, school/district teams will engage in two fall convenings to orient them to the academy, establish common language about an MTSS approach to SEL and mental health, and build connections both within and across teams.​  Technical Assistance/Coaching​  All teams are assigned a technical assistance (TA) provider--an SEL and mental health expert, who offers guidance and coaching differentiated to the specific school/district team. Through monthly check-ins and two in person team meetings, TA providers support teams in a variety of ways, including but not limited to, thought partnership, team facilitation, resource curation, document review, and material development. ​  Content Webinar​  Expert-facilitated webinars focused on highly-relevant topics based on the needs and interests of participating teams.​  Peer Sharing Calls​  Calls are lightly facilitated by TA providers intended to bring teams across districts with similar interests together to share ideas, ask questions, and strengthen networks across the Commonwealth.​  Academy Toolkit​  All tools and resources are compiled and available through your TA provider to support the process of building, strengthening, and sustaining your multi-tiered system of SEL and mental health supports.​  Learning Modules​  Pre-recorded modules focused on common questions and topics of interests are available "on demand."​

What topics are covered through the SEL & Mental Health track

Through the SEL & Mental Health track, participating school and district teams work closely with their assigned TA provider to  assess current SEL and mental health supports and systems , develop an action plan to implement or improve their MTSS approach,  and effectively implement their

  • MTSS approach using continuous quality improvement principles. Examples of specific topics covered include, but are not limited to:
  • Effective classroom-based and school-wide SEL programs and practices (Tier 1)
  • Supporting students demonstrating SEL and/or mental health needs through in- and/or out-of-classroom targeted supports (Tier 2)
  • Organizing and coordinating intensive and individualized mental health support services for students with significant mental health challenges (Tier 3)
  • Bringing an equity lens to ensuring inclusive, culturally-responsive, and trauma-informed SEL and mental health supports across all three tiers
  • Processes and protocols for identifying, placing, and monitoring students who need additional targeted SEL and mental health supports
  • Using data to inform SEL and mental health supports
  • Strategies to ensure effective implementation of SEL and mental health supports

PBIS Track 

What supports can we expect to receive from the PBIS track?  

Trainings​  Three-day team trainings offered in-person. ​  Coaches’ Meetings​  Each participating school will designate a PBIS coach who will participate in monthly coaches' meetings with coaches from other schools.​  Technical Assistance and Coaching​  All teams are assigned a technical assistance (TA) provider--a PBIS expert, who offers guidance and coaching differentiated to the specific school/district team. ​  Learning Modules​  Pre-recorded modules focused on topics of interests.​  Data Support​  Participating teams will be given a license and training support for SWIS--a PBIS data-system for data collection and analysis.​

What topics are covered through the PBIS track 

Through the PBIS track, participating school and district teams work closely with their assigned TA provider to develop and implement an action plan to design, build, and design their PBIS approach. Through the track's various topics relevant topics are covered, including but not limited to: 

  • Classroom-based and school-wide practices and that teach and encourage expected behaviors, prevent problem behaviors, and maximize academic achievement
  • Implementation and sustainability of PBIS Tier 1 practices and systems
  • Tier 2 support
  • Using data systems to inform PBIS supports
